I always liked him and think he is one of the best 30 coaches for the Professional level.

I do understand he is unemployed for a reason.

I do not blame him for the second stop in Buffalo or NYI.

It is going to be a rough one. Flyers coverage and Pickard against the top team in the East

One thing in their favour is the fact that Dominigue is in for TB. He gives up a lot of goals so the Flyers need to pepper him.

I think in the last thread I saw some rumblings about Carter Hart, some interesting tidbits to remember...

- It's been 2 years since Hart's draft year.
- Most starters in the NHL took 4+ years from draft year to play 30+ games
- Gibson 5 yrs, Holtby 5 yrs, Vasilevskiy 5 yrs, Hellebuyck 4-5 yrs, Allen 6 yrs
- Exceptions being highly drafted goaltenders (top 5)...basically just MA Fleury.

Ryan Miller....7 years
Henrik Lundqvist...5 years
Pekka Rinne...5 years
Cory Schneider...7 years
Jonathan Quick...4 years
Corey Crawford....8 years
Martin Jones....8 years
Devan Dubnyk...7 years
Tuukka Rask...5 years

Carter Hart 2 years since draft, 1st pro year....bust-a-roo

I'm not concerned about Hart yet. I mean, sure I am disappointed he didn't hit the ground running. that would have been ideal but that doesn't happened to all players.

So the goaltending tandem that were injured unreliable last year are proving to be more of the same this year. Color me shocked.

How bout this GM get off his (frank)ing ass and make a move for a reliable goaltender.
A Pickard/Lyon tandem ain't gonna cut it.

Need an update on the savior Carter Hart. How's he doing? NHL ready yet?

Yeah I was curious myself, not many goaltenders do. My initial thought process was how do other teams get these goaltenders and the Flyers don't...the answer I found was luck and a long time waiting.

Which tells me we should invest in a goalie now and not count on Hart until he is ready. Realistically even if he came into training camp in the next 2 years and earned a spot on the team he should be a backup and eased into a starting position. There are going to be goalies available at the TDL.

Columbus may choose to deal Bob, Metro is tighter than a nun right now. Any team could drop out of the playoff picture at any time. Varlamov, Howard, Talbot and Miller will be among goalies that are UFAs. Most of them should be available.

Yep, bad reputation, unfounded.

Not the best at X & O's, but he gets guys to PLAY

You arent going to get one right now. Flyers have to make due. Once the Playoff picture is more set in stone guys will be made more readily available. Worst thing the Flyers can do right now is make a panick trade. Elliot is gone for 2 weeks. Neuvirth will be back soon, Im sure he will last a week this time

Further more I think Lyon is perfectly capable of being a backup on this team. Just wish Hextall wasnt so afraid to play him.....

Being the best goalie in the CHL doesn’t automatically mean he’s going to be a great NHLer. It’s a crapshoot. Hopefully this kid will work through it and develop into a great goalie. John Boruk actually wrote a good article/interview about Lyon’s thoughts on Hart on the NBC Sports site.

Carter Hart will be just fine.....it’s going to take some time. He needs to play and play a lot. But they also need to give him a chance. When he’s struggling ...yank him, like they did last night. Like all 20 year olds ....he needs to find that next level. I’m sure he will.
I know this will piss off some but I actually don’t think we see him until 20-21 season....I see him being very good in the second half this year and then hopefully being dominate in the AHL next year and hopefully being the guy for years to come in a couple of years.

We might find out sooner or later about Lyon....with two older goalies who appear to be breaking down and only Pickard ahead of him, we’ll may see a lot of him.

I agree with you on Lyon. He always seems to rise to the occasion. I’m baffled by Hextall.

If they come ready to compete there’s no reason or justification for that to happen....they have lost to teams who they should beat...they need to beat some teams who on paper they don’t match up well against.

The expectations around here can just be flat out ridiculous. I would think the natural progression for Hart optimally would be something like:

18-19: Gets acclimated to the pro game in LHV, improves as the season goes on and is the clear cut #1 in the AHL playoffs

19-20: Is a top goalie in the AHL and the first guy called up if someone gets hurt or struggles with the Flyers

20-21: Rookie NHL season, pairs with a vet in a 1/1A tandem. As he acclimates to the speed of the NHL game, he takes over the #1 spot down the stretch

21-22: Clear cut #1 NHL goalie

This is why I was really frustrated that Hextall didn't buyout Neuvirth in June and instead went the UFA route to bring in someone to pair with Elliott. There were options, especially considering the cap room the Flyers had. Cam Ward signed a one year, 3 million deal in Chicago, the Flyers could have offered 3.5 and still be well under the cap. Better yet, Halak signed a 2 year deal for 2.75 per in Boston, the Flyers could have easily afforded to go 2 years at 3 or even 3.25 to out bid the Bs and sign Halak

These guy may not be better than Neuvirth, but at least they can get through a game without falling apart and they are legit experienced NHL goalies who would have paired nicely with Elliott.

Hextall really screwed the pooch on this one. It's 100% on him.

I’ve been told fans who don’t blindly cheer are part of the problem.

I personally hope they get destroyed today. Force Hextall’s limp hand, and maybe some of the deplorable fake fans might question them at the carnival.

This has been embarrassing long enough. Passive, perimeter, boring, and safe play.

Raise the standards, these are not the Flyers we all grew to love. Burn baby burn.
